Greetings from the National Institute of Ecology
On the threshold of winter, the National Institute of Ecology prepared a special event to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. We are opening international orchid symposium titled ‘The 11th International Symposium on Diversityand Conservation of Asian Orchids’ and exhibition on the topic of ‘Walking through the orchids’.
An orchid is a plant to be appreciated, which is deeply attached to our life. It is admired across the ages and in all countries of the world for its mellow scent and quite different but splendid and special shape. Tropical orchids which specially grow centrally in the Asiatic tropics excites lovers of orchids from all over the world with the diversity. In addition, orchids are recently used as natural ingredients essential in cosmetic industry.
This year’s symposium, we have arranged a place valuable to share information on collection and conservation of world wild orchids. Also, this year’s special display techniques will provide original attraction as it proudly presents an exhibition featuring orchids’ indigenous condition of ecology close to true nature.
We look forward to seeing all of you in passing freezing winter to meet new spring ahead with the preparing plants waiting for exhibition on orchids in tropical climate ecology.
한 해가 저물고 있습니다. 깊어가는 가을을 뒤로 하고 선 겨울 문턱에서 국립생태원은 두 돌을 자축하는 특별한 잔치를 준비하고 있습니다. ‘제11회 아시아 희귀 난의 보전과 지속 가능한 이용 심포지엄’과 ‘난 속을 거닐다’라는 주제로 국제 난 심포지엄과 전시회를 열고자 합니다.
난은 우리 생활에 깊숙이 들어와 있는 감상 가치가 높은 식물입니다. 그윽한 향과 사뭇 다른 화려하고 특이한 모양새를 자랑하는 난은 고금과 동서를 가리지 않고 뭇사람들의 관심과 사랑을 받아왔습니다. 특히 열대 아시아 지역을 중심으로 자라는 열대 난은 그 다양함으로 전 세계 애호가들 마음을 설레게 합니다. 그런가 하면 최근에는 화장품 산업 등에 없어서는 안 될 중요한 천연 원료로 쓰이기도 합니다.
금번 개최되는 심포지엄을 통해 전 세계 야생난의 수집과 보전의 정보를 공유하는 유익한 장을 마련했으며, 난 고유의 생태 조건을 자연에 가깝게 전시하는 이른바 생태 전시의 진수를 선보이는 이번 국립생태원의 전시 기법은 색다른 매력을 선물할 것입니다.
추운 겨울을 넘기면서 새봄을 준비하는 식물들을 한 계절 미리 만나보고 열대 기후 속 생태 난 전시회를 기다리면서 여러분을 모십니다.
